Evaluation
Third Party Evaluation
Since our inception the Education Coalition has invested significant resources to conduct third party evaluations of our work and the progress of the children in our programs. Each year we have used the results of these evaluations to modify and improve our services.
Our evaluation results have reconfirmed our founding premises:
- Children who are served over multiple years, continue to make greater advances than those served short term.
- Services for students during transition years (elementary to middle, middle to high school) prove effective for sustained student performance.
- Positive changes have been observed in reading and attendance levels across genders, races and socio-economic categories.
Our 2006 – 2007 Results:
- 75% of the students served increased or maintained their scaled reading scores while only 64% of the control group increased or maintained their scaled reading scores.
- Middle school students and students in the 9th and 10th grades demonstrated significantly better reading scores than did students in the control group.
- Students felt positive about their experience with ABEC services: 91% of those surveyed stating they believed that tutoring/mentoring helped improve their grades.
- Students who received ABEC services had significantly lower absentee rates than students in the control group.
