  • Picture of Recalled Hip Charm Key ChainsIn June 2008, "Hip Charm" Key Chains, made in China, were recalled. The charms on the key chain can contain high levels of lead. The Illinois Attorney General informed Wal-Mart and CPSC in April that the previously recalled key chain was found in the home of a 9-month-old child who was discovered to have high blood levels of lead. The child was observed mouthing this key chain. The recalled key chains have several charms including a button, clover, leaf, and heart. The charms hang from a silver-colored chain. The words “Hip charm” and the following UPC numbers are printed on the products packaging: 03156811032, 03156811029, 03156811019, 03156811016, 03156811018, 03156811028, and 03156811030.   • Picture of Recalled Children's JewelryPicture of Recalled Children's JewelryIn June 2008, Children’s Jewelry, made in China, was recalled. The jewelry contains high levels of lead. This recall involves children’s bracelets and Zodiac-sign necklaces. The necklaces have a black, non-metal cord and a silver rectangular pendant. An abstract design and a zodiacal name is printed on the front. The bracelets have a black, non-metal cord and plastic beads. Silver pendants shaped as a knife, cupid, sun, heart and bird wings are sold with the bracelets. The jewelry has UPC numbers 984343144040 (necklace) and 947678164466 (bracelet) printed on the back label.   • In June 2008, Camouflage Pajama Sets, made in Vietnam, were recalled. This recall involves long- and short-sleeved pajama sets. The screen print on the shirt contains excess levels of lead. The sets have a blue shirt with a red screen print that reads “Athletics 90” and coordinating camouflage pants. The pajama sets were sold in boys’ sizes XXS (2/3) to XL (14) at The Children’s Place stores nationwide and www.childrensplace.com from December 2006 to January 2008 for between $15 and $17.

  • In May 2008, Makit & Bakit Jewelry Sets and Suncatcher Sets, made in China, were recalled. The clasps on some of the jewelry contains high levels of lead. The recall includes QuinCrafts products containing children’s jewelry. Only items with the following item numbers printed on the back of the packaging are included in the recall:

  • In May 2008, Rawlings Junior Batting Helmets, made in China, were recalled. Surface paint on the helmets contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. This recall involves junior batting helmets with model number CFHLJR. The helmets come in yellow and orange with black accents. The model number can be found on the rear of the helmet.   • In May 2008, Cowboy on a Horse Little Rider Toys, made in China, were recalled.Surface paint on the shoe and pants of the rider toy contains excessive levels of lead.This recall includes a battery operated cowboy riding a horse toy. The model number 8610B is located on the product packaging. The horse and rider together measure about 8.5 inches in height by 7.5 inches in length. The rider is wearing blue pants and a red shirt and the horse is brown. Only Little Rider Toys with UPC code 603678086101 printed on the product packaging are included in the recall.   • In May 2008, Floppy Friends Horse Toys, made in China, were recalled. Surface paint on the toy horse contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. The recalled horse toy has a push up base. When the base is pushed up, the toy horse is floppy. When released, the toy horse stands up straight. The horse is brown and white and the base is green with orange, red flowers and dark blue flowers.   • In May 2008, various magnets, made in India, were recalled. Surface paint on the magnets can contain high levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. This recall involves horseshoe, rectangular bar and U-shaped magnets sold primarily to schools for use in science classes. The magnets have red and blue paint on the surface of the magnet.   • In May 2008, Yellow Sure Grip Paint Brushes, made in China, were recalled. Surface paint on the handle of the yellow paint brushes contains excessive levels of lead.The paint brushes were sold in multi-color packages of four. Only the yellow brushes are included in the recall. The paint brushes have a rounded cylinder body with tan bristle tip brushes and measure about 4 inches in height. They were sold at Early Childhood Resource distributors, including teacher supply stores nationwide from May-December 2007 for about $4.   • In May 2008, Tinker Bell Wands, made in China, were recalled. The paint on the pearl beads in the flowers of the wands contains excessive levels of lead.The recalled Tinker Bell wands are green and light up and sound when a button in the handle is pressed. The top of the wand has white plastic flowers, a green bow, and a pin with Tinker Bell’s face on it. They were sold at Disney stores nationwide from April-October 2007 for about $13.   • In May 2008, Basic Beat Shaker Guiro Instruments, made in Taiwan, were recalled. Surface paint on the recalled shaker guiro instrument contains excessive levels of lead. The recalled shaker guiro is a ridged, cylinder-shaped percussion instrument that contains beads and is played by scraping a stick along the surface. The shaker guiro measures about 2” wide x 5” long. One end of the instrument is painted red and the other end is painted blue. The center section and stick are natural wood. “Basic Beat 5” Guiro/Shaker,” “SHBB5,” and “Recommended for Ages 6+” are printed on the packaging. They were sold by West Music retail stores in Iowa and Illinois, the West Music catalog, online at www.westmusic.com, and West Music booths at conventions and workshops nationwide, the Music Together Catalog, and www.musictogether.com from November 2001-March 2008 for between $9 and $11. They were sold by independent distributors nationwide from October 1996-September 2007 for between 50 cents and $15. Distributors sold the products to schools for use in science classes.   • In May 2008, Pirates of the Caribbean Sleeping Bags, made in China, were recalled. The surface paint on the sleeping bag’s zipper pull contains excessive levels of lead. The recalled Pirates of the Caribbean sleeping bags have a cartoon pirate design of Davey Jones and Jack Sparrow on the front. Style number F1652B0003 is printed on the logo label inside the sleeping bags. The sleeping bag with the skull art design is not included in this recall.   • In May 2008, Basketball and Flower Tables, distributed by Avon and manufactured in Peru, were recalled.

Picture of Recalled Flower TableSurface paint on the tables contains excessive levels of lead. The Basketball Table is about 16 inches tall with white legs and a 19-inch diameter top. The Flower Table is about 30 inches tall with a green petal stand and a 15-inch diameter purple and yellow top. They were sold through Avon Independent Sales Representatives in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands from June-August 2007.   • In May 2008, Children’s Storage Bins, made in Taiwan, were recalled. Surface paint on the storage bins could contain excessive levels of lead. The recalled storage bins are wooden with scalloped edges and were sold in pastel green or pink. Item number 226782 (pastel green storage bin) or 226781 (pink storage bin) is located on the bottom of the storage bin. No other storage bins or colors are included in this recall.   • In May 2008, Character-themed lapel pins, distributed by Nintendo and made in China, were recalled.

The lapel pins vary in size, ranging from 1- to 2- inches in height. The characters Diddy Kong, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Mario, Mario Kart, Pikachu, Princess Peach, Samus, Starfox, Waluigi and Wario were sold individually. Mario, Princess Peach and Samus were also sold as a set. They were sold at Nintendo stores in Redmond, Washington and New York, NY between April 2004-November 2007 for between $1.50 and $4.   • In April 2008, Western Rider Push Toys, made in China, were recalled. Surface paint on the glove, shirt, and pants of rider toy contains excessive levels of lead. The recall involves a push toy of a plastic horse with rider and a 20-inch long pole/handle. The horse and pole/handle together measures about 26 inches. The rider is wearing red pants and a green shirt. The horse comes in various colors. They were sold at retail dollar and discount stores nationwide February 2005- February 2008 for between $2.50 and $3.   • In April 2008, "Hip Charm" Key Chains , made in China, were recalled. The charms on the key chain can contain high levels of lead, which is toxic if ingested and can cause adverse health effects.

The child was observed mouthing this key chain. The recalled key chain has several charms including a button, clover, leaf, heart and a sand dollar. The charms hang from a silver-colored chain. The words “Hip charm” and UPC (#31568 11017) are printed on the product’s packaging. They were sold at Wal-Mart stores nationwide from April 2005-April 2008 for about $6.   • In April 2008, Flower Writers; Christmas Writers; Easter Writers; and Spooky Writers Seasonal Writing Pens, made in China, were recalled. The seasonal writing pens' surface coating contains high levels of lead. The recalled pens were sold individually as one of four-series pens including Flower Writer; Christmas Writer; Easter Writer and Spooky Writer. Each pen has themed decorations including flowers, Christmas, Easter and Halloween ornamentation. They were sold at Michaels retail stores nationwide from August 2007-March 2008 for about $1.   • In April 2008, Hillbilly Teeth, made in China, were recalled. The gray surface paint on the teeth contains excessive levels of lead. This recall involves a 2-pack fake Hillbilly Teeth with item # 2657. The item number is printed on the packaging. The gums are brown and the teeth are yellow.   • Picture of Recalled Children's SunglassesIn April 2008, Children’s Sunglasses, made in China, were recalled. Surface paint in the orange lettering on the temples of the sunglasses contains excessive levels of lead. The recalled children’s sunglasses have Main Street Drag characters on the bottom of one lens. The sunglass frames have dark metallic blue or dark metallic red fronts and gray checkered sides. “Main Street Drag” is printed in orange at the temples. Style number DI25K7116 is printed on the left temple. No other styles are included in this recall.   • In April 2008, Interchange Robot Toys, made in China, were recalled.  Surface paints on the toys contain excessive levels of lead. The recalled robot toys were sold as a four piece set with various colored robots each carrying a gun in one hand and a shield in the other. “Interchange Robot” is printed on the outside packaging of the product.  They were sold at Dollar stores nationwide from October-December 2007 for about $1.   • In March 2008, Backyard and Beyond Metal Water Bottles, made in China, were recalled. Surface paint on the metal water bottles contains excessive levels of lead.  Backyard and Beyond brand water bottles with model numbers 67402, 67404, 67442, 67444, 67742, 60442, 67744, 67746, 67748 and 60448 printed on the hang tag. The metal water bottles have a black plastic sip-top and were sold in green, pink or blue with assorted animal or insect graphics on the exterior. They were sold at major retailers, gift shops, convenience stores, mass merchandise and drug stores nationwide from February 2006- February 2008 for about $8.   • In March 2008, Camouflage Eggs and Spinning Egg Top Toys, made inChina, were recalled. The paint on the toys contains excessive levels of lead. The Camouflage Easter Egg Treat Containers have Item #1031 printed on the front of the packaging and are white, brown and green camouflage colors, sold in a package of eight eggs. “Made in China for Tony Development and Mfg Ltd; TST, Kin, HK” and UPC code number 43078 01031 are printed on the back of the packing. The Easter Spinning Egg Tops have Item # 1054 printed on the front of the packaging and are multi-colored and come in packages of a single egg and a rip cord. “Made in China for Tony Development and Mfg Ltd. TST, Kin, HK" and UPC code number 43078 01054 are printed on the back of the packaging. They were sold at Hobby Lobby Stores nationwide from January-March 2008. The camouflage egg sold for about $2.50 and the Spinning Top sold for about $2.   • In March 2008, Wire-O Bound Journals and Calendars, made in China, were recalled. The paint on the metal spiral bindings of the journals contains excessive levels of lead.The recalled journals are spiral bound journals, activity books, and calendars sold in a variety of styles, sizes and colors.   • Picture of Recalled Super Famous Toy CarIn March, 2008, X Force Commander Toy Airplanes and Super Famous Toy Cars and Motorcycles, made in China,were recalled. The recalled toys contain excessive levels of lead.The “X Force Commander” is a set of six plastic jet airplanes. Item number 5689 is printed on the front of the packaging. The airplanes are painted green, red, blue, silver, black and yellow. The “Super Famous” is a set of a plastic toy car and a motorcycle. The car is yellow or red and the motorcycle is gray. They were sold at Dollar Stores nationwide from September 2006- November 2007 for about $1. Contact S.U. Wholesale at (877) 580-8883.

  • In December 4, 2007, a San Antonio company voluntarily recalled jars of the Mexican candy Barrilito, a dark It is being reported that the distributor of a mexican candy is issuing a state wide recall in Texas after tests showed higher than normal levels of lead in the product sold under the name, Barrilitobrown thick syrup sold in 3.3 ounce (100 gram) glass barrel-shaped jars with white plastic lids for containing lead. The yellow label shows the name “Barrilito” in red outline letters. The label also reads: Productos Avila, S.A. de C.V. Puerto Malaque 1379 Col. Sta. Maria Guadalajara, Jal. Mexico. The problem is with the product, not with the distributor, Villa-Mex Imports. Recent laboratory tests show lead levels above the 0.1 parts per million lead level considered to be a potential public health hazard by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Candy samples ranged from 0.101 to 0.132 parts per million of lead. The tests were part of DSHS product surveillance conducted over the last several months.   • Picture of Recalled Memory Testing CardsIn February 2008, Memory Testing Cards (sold as part of educational testing kits), made in China, were recalled. Surface paint on the cards contains excessive levels of lead. The recall involves the Universal Nonverbal Intelligence Test—Symbolic Memory Cards. The memory testing cards are part of a kit used to test children’s physical and mental abilities. They are white with green figures, measure 1 ˝” x 1 ˝”, and were sold as part of a kit (model number 922782), or were sold in packages of 10 cards (model number 922775). The model numbers are located on the packaging. They were sold by Riverside Publishing to testing facilities and administrators nationwide from January 2003- November 2007 for about $550.   • Picture of Recalled Children's Table and ChairIn February 2008, Children's Table and Chair, made in China, were recalled.The surface paint on the children's table and chair sets contains excessive levels of lead.The recalled table and chair sets are natural colored. The table is either round or rectangular, has a shelf under the table and includes two chairs. Model number ALZ024-3 or ALZ023-3 is printed on the packaging.   • In February 2008, Children’s Metal Necklaces, made in China, were recalled. The children’s necklaces contain high levels of lead.  The recalled necklaces include a cat with silver and pink rhinestones, a heart and lock with pink rhinestones, a silver colored heart with a rhinestone crown, and a silver colored lock and key.   • In February 2008, A Life of Faith Charm Bracelet Sets, made in China, were recalled.  Surface paint on the pearl white beads of the bracelet, contains excessive levels of lead. The recalled bracelets have a silver-colored chain and silver-colored charms, including a Bible, angel, cross, heart, and praying hands. The bracelets were sold with clear, crystal and pearl white beads. The recalled sets include a bracelet for a girl to wear, along with a smaller, matching bracelet for her doll. They were sold at specialty toy, book, and gift stores nationwide from October 2006-November 2007 for about $15. Return to the Mission City Press to receive a refund. The pendant collections included Signs of the Zodiac, Runes, Ritual, Goddess, Chinese Zodiac, and Celtic Harmonies. The pendants were sold separately and on candles of various colors and scents.   • In February 2008, Toy Gardening Hand Rakes, made in China, were recalled. The paint on the gardening tool hand rake contains excessive levels of lead.
