Technology

Technology is a recurring theme of the RENCI at UNC Asheville Engagement Site. Although technology itself will not solve problems, it aids our ability too. RENCI at UNC Asheville provides a broad range of technologies for testing and prototyping. Visual technologies at the Enka Engagement site include a VisWall, Immersive Geo-Dome, Plasma TV's, video conferencing, high powered servers, and a wide range of cutting edge software.

The GIS Programs Staff at both Buncombe County and the City of Asheville have partnered with RENCI at UNC Asheville to deliver a state-of-the-art geospatial solution to our community. By combining high performance hardware, software, and collaborative expertise, along with ERC’s Broadband fiber optic infrastructure, the three organizations will be better able to provide a wealth of information concerning such local and regional issues as steep slope development and its related ordinances. This will be accessible to the public and governmental staff through an on-line GIS application.
