3D Visualization of Network Traffic - A study in scientific visualization and its benefits

Steven Anthony
Department of Mathematics
Faculty Mentor : Susan Reiser, Department of Computer Science and Multimedia Arts & Sciences

The purpose of this research is to explore scientific 3D visualization methods and practice through the simulation of a computer network. The creation of a system to visualize many 3D data sets could be useful in the visualization of climatic data. This visualization system should be open ended, and flexible to changes in a network. The visualization that is produced must be understandable and easily able to analyze. The purpose is to allow experts to be able to quickly see patterns or correlations in data that would be otherwise hard to detect. Such a system would also allow the study of large amounts of climatic data quickly.
