NOAA Data Interface Development

Andrea Fey
Department of Computer Science
Faculty Mentor : Susan Reiser, Department of Computer Science and Multimedia Arts & Sciences

NOMADSAndrea Fey is working with the NOAA Operational Model Archive and Distribution System (NOMADS) Team within the Remote Sensing and Applications Division, Services Team, NCDC, to help answer the question, “How can we coordinate massive, disjoint, multi-formatted weather data sets and make them easily accessible to scientific researchers and the public?”

Her goal is to integrate data from multiple sources into operations for use in quality control, research and servicing, while unifying access to the varied data sources. She is also increasing the accessibility of climate model data to NOAA, NEMAC, and private and university sector researchers.

Andrea’s primary projects are the advancement of user interfaces for user access to the National Weather Service (NWS) required “Service Records Retention System” (SRRS) data sets and the Live Access Server (LAS) project. The LAS offers on-the-fly visualization of data and data comparisons as well as the capability of downloading user-specified subsets in a variety of formats.
