Climate Education, Research, and Outreach (CERO): A University-Government Collaboration
About
UNC Asheville received a grant from NOAA’s National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Service Program Office. UNC Asheville will collaborate with the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) - in the areas of education, science and technical research, and public outreach to help reach the following desired outcomes:
UNC Asheville’s NEMAC directly contributes to the development of outreach tools for this grant. This work ties into the ongoing work at the RENCI at UNC Asheville Engagement Site. The focus will be on applying climate and weather issues directly to western North Carolina by using a variety of tools including: the creation of movies and graphics for NOAA’s StormCenter Touch Table, Immersive Theater Movies, the Decision Theater, and web content and materials for the RENCI outreach van.
Development activities will include creating and disseminating innovative tools to enhance NOAA outreach efforts, and involve undergraduate researchers in the creation and dissemination of materials and exhibits for display locally and regionally, including at area public schools, colleges, universities, museums, and other appropriate educational facilities.
